BENEFITS OF SAFETY PROGRAMS

Benefits

Employers who make Safety and Health a part of their workplace culture report many benefits. According to OSHA and The National Safety Council these benefits include:

  • Prevention of workplace injuries and illnesses

  • Improved compliance with laws and regulations

  • Reduced costs, including significant reductions in workers’ compensation premiums

  • A more engaged workforce

  • Reduced employee turnover

  • Increases in productivity and overall business operations

  • A stronger sense of social responsibility among workers

Man gives thumbs up for safety

Despite these benefits some employers still believe that by providing information and training, they are simply empowering their employee to use that knowledge against them in the form of OSHA complaints and “Gaming the System.” The reality is that most workplace training focuses on employee and management engagement and aims to reduce the need for OSHA or other regulatory agencies to step in and issue fines or penalties.

Additionally, when employees know that a workers’ compensation program is well run and that there is a strong focus on outcomes, they are less likely to miss extended periods of time due to workplace injuries.
